Ferrum Women’s Cross Country Compete at NCAA Regional

Four members of the Ferrum College women’s cross country team competed on Nov. 12 at the NCAA South Regional in Newport News, Va., hosted by Christopher Newport University at Lee Hall Mansion.

“Our women have fought and trained so hard this year. These past couple weeks, we have been battling illnesses on our team, and it really has affected us this weekend,” said Mark White, Head Cross Country Coach. “I wish we would have been full strength and healthy for the past couple weekends, but that’s how it goes. I really appreciate their effort!”

The top five individuals of the regional with their running times were Annika Urban, Emory 22:29.3; Madison Lowery, Pfeiffer 22:49.8; Sarah James, Lynchburg 22:50.8; Carolyn Todd, Washington and Le 22:56.3; and Allison Dell, Lynchburg 23:14.0.

Lynchburg won the team title with 30 points, finishing 18 points aboveĀ  the runner-up Emory. Washington and Lee (90), host Christopher Newport (175) and Berry (184) rounded out the top five teams. Individually, Annika Ruban from Emory won the title with her time of 22:29.3. Ferrum’s Genesis Pineiro was the Panther’s top finisher, covering the 6K course in a time of 30:13.9 and placing 136th in a field of 182 competitors.

Ferrum’s four runners with their finishing times of the race included Genesis Pineiro, senior, 30:13.9, 136th; Eliza Montgomery, junior, 39:36.8, 172nd; Ariona Holiz, freshman, DNF; and Escarlen Vasquez, senior, DNF.
