Ferrum College Men’s Wrestling wrapped things up with two individual titles and an overall team score of 169, landing the team a third place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships that were held March 15.
The individuals who pinned the titles are, Freshman Ezekiel Keel (125) and Sophomore Cameron Curva (149). Keel was also named Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.
Keel claimed the title with a run on his bracket, with back to back falls in the quarterfinals and semifinals, then securing the title with a 15-5 major decision. He finished the day 5-0 and earned the Panthers 24 points.
Curva started strong with a fall over Liberty’s Christian Knuckles and followed by a 15-5 decision over James Madison’s Brady Bollander in the semifinals. He was awarded the medal via medical forfeit in the finals, adding another set of 24 points for the Panthers.
Ferrum also had two wrestlers reach the finals and earn runner up, sophomore Andres Cortes (157) and senior Braeden Fluke.
Two third places finishers were sophomore Josiah Canales Maldonado (133) and senior Hunter Thompson (184).
Additional placers were junior Joseph Toner (184) at fourth place, Braden Crawford (141) at fifth place. First-year Robert Owens Jr. (157) and senior Noah Harris (197) both placed seventh.
Head Coach Blake Roulo was named Mid-Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year.
